rootcellar.jpg
We built a root cellar in the basement, to store produce and fruits from our garden and orchard. The cellar consists of 2 separate rooms, the first leading into the second. Both have doors. Like the Wine Cellar, we used concrete on the walls. Bobby sculpted fruits and vegetables into the concrete.

Humidity control is mostly natural. It is supplemented by a concrete pool in the second room. Some of the items are stored in sawdust, which also provides humidity control. There is an opening through the foundation with a fan, enabling cold air to be circulated in the winter, if required. Humidity normally stays above 80%, and temperature is normally around 55 degrees.
